The crack of bats, flying tennis balls and the cheering of excited fans are on the horizon; but, this year will be different in Anna. Baseball, softball and tennis is now in our own backyard! The Anna Sports Complex is Anna High School’s newest addition, located on the south side of AHS.
The community of Anna is welcome to come experience these exciting firsts:
Tennis match - February 9 & 10 at 4:15PM
Softball game - February 14 at 5:00PM
Baseball game - February 20 at 5:00PM
The new Anna Sports Complex provides plenty of space for our entire community to gather. The complex features a synthetic turf baseball field - with stadium seating for 350, a synthetic turf softball field - with stadium seating for 250, and eight tennis courts - with moveable seating for 50.
Athletic Director Jason Heath is looking forward to a baseball/softball and tennis complex in which athletes can call their own. Heath said, “It should make for a great venue for parents and fans to watch a game or a match. It will be one of the best facilities around and one that instills pride in everyone. There will be fewer issues with maintenance of fields and less chance of having to cancel practices or games, due to weather.”
Baseball Coach Joey Hector is hopeful the new complex will generate some excitement and get more kids playing baseball. Hector added, “I’m looking forward to having the batting cages attached to the field, an actual bullpen for our pitchers to warm up in, storage room for baseball equipment, knowing that the ball will always take a good hop and having a PA system for music to create atmosphere. I can go on and on, but most of all I’m glad we now have our own field.”
Softball Coach Lindsey Gage stated, “We are so excited to represent our school on our brand new softball field. The new field brings a lot of excitement to the athletes and the coaching staff. We are looking forward to being able to walk to practice while remaining on campus. We think this will help bring a bigger crowd to the games. We are also excited to be able to host a tournament this year, helping us show off our new facilities and giving other teams the chance to play on an all turf field!”
Tennis Coach Vince Sharp expressed that he is looking forward to having room for the kids to hit more balls in practice and to having facilities that can be used to host tournaments.
The new sports complex is an exciting step in the evolution of Anna ISD. This complex will allow our students a facility in which they can be proud of for years to come. Please visit the Anna ISD Athletic Webpage
